Matias Relyea 賀彥龍

My name is Matias, and I am a second-year student in the Department of Mathematics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

I was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Einstein Institute of Mathematics REU at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem for Summer 2026, advised by Professor Shai Evra (read about it here).

This website serves the dual purpose of presenting both expository and original work pertaining to areas that I am interested in (under Articles), as well as acting as a semi-serious pseudo-blog (under Memoirs) that documents some of my mathematical experiences, opinions, and sometimes existential pieces that make no sense.

Currently I am interested in algebraic number theory, algebraic geometry, algebraic topology, Lie theory, and group theory. I am also interested in thinking critically about the impact that artificial intelligence has on mathematical research and the general mathematics community; read the Leiden Declaration. Thank you for visiting this site.

I wrote a math REU application guide for the 2026 cycle from a first year perspective, check it out.

Oh, and a little TeXnique can't hurt right?
